Counting steps from gate to room, how far a car gets, wet-weather footing, older guests, strollers, big suitcases. Ours: 46 stone steps from gate to lounge.

At Nhà Sương, cars up to seven seats drive right to the gate; from the gate to the lounge it is 46 stone steps, then 12 to 30 more from the lounge to your door, depending on the room. The rooms with the fewest steps are Thông Nhỏ (Little Pine) and Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room): 12 steps from the lounge, 58 from the gate. No room can be reached without stairs, and there is no lift. If someone in your group uses a wheelchair, or cannot manage about sixty steps even with rests, book a hotel with a lift. We say that even though we sell rooms.

Updated 6 October 2026\. The step counts are our own, and match the numbers on each room page.

Written by Vinh, who lights the stoves, repairs the house and drives the car at Nhà Sương, and who carries suitcases up these steps every day. Nhà Sương is a homestay that sells rooms; this page is about our own slope and stairs, plus how to ask any other hillside place the same questions.

## Why hillside homestays rarely mention steps

A homestay on a hillside gets its view over the valley precisely because of the slope. But listing photos rarely show the stairs. Among the pages we read, very few gave a step count. One rare example: the Airbnb listing for Dalat Memories says plainly that there are 120 steps on the property and that guests need to be in good health (read 4 October 2026). We cite it because that is the right way to say it, not to compare.

Our [guide to choosing a Đà Lạt homestay](/en/guide/choosing-a-dalat-homestay) has six questions to ask before paying a deposit; the number of steps is one of them.

## Steps from the gate to each room

| Room | Floor | Steps from the lounge | Total from the gate |

Total from the gate = the 46 stone steps from the gate to the lounge, plus the steps from the lounge to the room door.

### How we count

Tuệ, the host, counts every step himself: one step is one rise. The first stretch runs from the gate to the lounge door (46). The second runs from the lounge to each room’s door. Stairs inside a room, like the Cloud Loft’s loft stair, are listed separately so they do not get mixed into the route. Whenever Vinh repairs the path or replace a stone step, we count again and update the room pages and this page together. If you count a different number when you arrive, tell us.

### Gác Mây (Cloud Loft): the steep 11-step stair inside

Gác Mây has its queen bed up on a loft, reached by a steep 11-step stair, with a 1.2 m sofa bed below. It is not suitable for guests with knee or balance problems. A trip to the bathroom at night means 11 steep steps down and back up. If you love the glass gable over the valley but your knees are not what they were, Phòng Sương (Mist Suite) also looks over the valley: more steps on the way there (30 from the lounge), but no stair inside the room.

## How far the car goes

- Cars up to seven seats get through the alley and stop at the gate. Anything bigger we have not tried, so we will not promise; ask us first.
- Our airport car comes straight to the gate: [Liên Khương airport pickup](/en/experiences/airport-transfer), 450,000 VND per car, up to four people and four suitcases, at least 12 hours’ notice. Vinh drives it.
- Arriving after 22:00? Message Ngân beforehand and Vinh will come and open the gate.

Directions, and how to give the address to a driver, are on our [location page](/en/location).

## Rainy days

The alley up to the house is a slope. In heavy rain there are times a car cannot get up it. When that happens Vinh tells you in advance, agrees where to meet you and comes down for the bags; you will not be left dragging a suitcase uphill. Wet stone steps are slippery. Wear rubber-soled shoes with tread, go slowly and keep your hands free. Our piece on [Đà Lạt in the rainy season](/en/guide/dalat-in-the-rainy-season) says more about those days.

## Big suitcases, strollers, older guests, weak knees

**Big suitcases.** Staff carry your luggage from the gate to your room. You only need to carry your own small bag. If you are travelling alone with a lot, tell us your arrival time so someone meets you at the gate.

**Strollers.** There is no route you can push a stroller up. Fold it and we carry it up with the suitcases; an adult carries the child. If your little one naps in the stroller, remember that every outing means 46 steps down and back up. Families with small children usually do best in Nhà Vườn (16 steps from the lounge, two bedrooms) or Bếp Nhỏ (12 steps).

**Older guests.** Choose Thông Nhỏ (up to two guests) or Bếp Nhỏ (up to three): 58 steps from the gate, the fewest in the house. Go slowly and rest in the lounge, which has a wood stove and seating and is open 07:00 to 22:00\. Breakfast is served in the lounge from 07:30 to 09:30, so mornings do not add extra climbs.

**Weak knees.** Avoid Gác Mây. Ask us before choosing Phòng Sương (76 steps from the gate).

**Who should pick another place.** Wheelchair users; anyone who cannot climb about sixty steps even with breaks; anyone who needs to go in and out many times a day and finds each climb a burden. A hotel with a lift and level paths will suit you better, and we are happy to say so on the phone.

Booked, then found the steps are too many? Moving to another room is free when one is free; any difference in rate follows our [rates page](/en/rates). Full terms are on the [booking policy](/en/booking-policy).

## Six questions to ask any hillside homestay

1. Where does my car stop, and how many steps is it from there to the room door?
2. Is there a room with fewer steps, and which one?
3. Who carries the luggage, and until what time?
4. Can a car get up in the rain? If not, where do you meet me?
5. Is there a loft stair inside the room, and how steep is it?
6. If I arrive late, who opens the gate?

A place that answers all six with numbers has walked its own path. Our answers are above and in the [FAQ](/en/faq).
