What the window faces
The ground-floor door opens onto a 10 m² terrace with the pine garden in front. You look into trees close by, not out across the valley.
The Kitchen Room (Bếp Nhỏ) is a 34 m² ground-floor room with a kitchen of its own and a 10 m² terrace on the pine garden. Most listings for a Dalat homestay with kitchen mean a shared space with a hob and not much else, and they rarely say what is in it. So here is the full list: induction hob, pots, plates, a kettle, a fridge, and a table that seats four.
Bed, kitchen and bathroom
A 1.8 x 2.0 m king bed. For a third guest we add an extra bed, and at 34 m² the room still has space after that. Private bathroom with hot water.
The hob is induction, with no gas, and the pans in the room all work on it. The table for four doubles as a decent desk if you are working remotely. Groceries and seasoning are up to you; Lan’s reminder for guests is salt, cooking oil and washing-up liquid, the three things people forget. The kitchen shares the room with the bed, so anything fried will hang around for a while; open the terrace door while you cook.
Cold nights
No stove in the Kitchen Room. The king bed and the extra bed have electric blankets, warmed by Lan before you come in. December and January nights in Đà Lạt can drop to 10°C to 12°C. The shared wood stove is in the lounge, 12 steps away, lit by Vinh from 18:00 to 22:00; it heats the lounge, not the rooms.
From the gate to the room
46 stone steps from the gate to the lounge, then 12 to your door: 58 in all, the lowest in the house along with Little Pine. Vinh carries luggage, and shopping bags too if you ask. No lift.
Worth knowing
- Three guests maximum. A table for four does not mean the room sleeps four.
- We have not yet measured the distance to the market or the supermarket, so we do not give a number here. Ask Ngân and she will tell you the way.
- A family of four who need two bedrooms, a kitchen and a stove: see the Garden House.
- Lan’s guide to Dalat homestays with a kitchen covers private versus shared kitchens and what to buy. If there are four or more of you and nobody wants to cook, there is dinner by the fire.
