Twin Pine: two beds along a pine-board wall, grey linen, a glass door at the end opening onto a railed balcony that faces a pine hill

What the window faces

The balcony door on the first floor opens onto a 5 m² balcony facing the pine slope behind the house. You look across into the treetops, not down over the valley.

Twin Pine (Thông Đôi) is our twin room: 22 m² on the first floor with a 5 m² balcony looking at the pine hill. If you searched for a Dalat homestay twin room with a balcony because two of you are travelling together and would rather not share a duvet, this is the room. We usually give it to friends on a weekend away, sisters, or a parent travelling with an adult son or daughter.

Beds and bathroom

Two single beds, each 1.2 x 2.0 m, which is wider than most singles. They can be pushed together into a 2.4 x 2.0 m sleeping area. To be clear about it: it is still two mattresses with a seam down the middle. If you are a couple who want one continuous mattress, a king room will suit you better. If you do want them together, say so when booking and Lan will have it ready. Private bathroom with hot water.

Cold nights

No stove in Twin Pine. Each bed has its own electric blanket, so one of you can sleep warm and the other cool. Lan warms the bedding before you arrive. December and January nights in Đà Lạt can drop to 10°C to 12°C, which is colder than most people pack for if they live in Ho Chi Minh City. Shut the balcony door before bed.

In the evening Vinh lights the wood stove in the lounge, 18:00 to 22:00. It heats the lounge, not the rooms upstairs. The lounge is 18 steps down from your door.

From the gate to the room

Cars reach the gate. From the gate to the lounge is 46 stone steps, then 18 more up to the first floor: 64 steps in all. Vinh carries the bags. There is no lift.

Worth knowing

  • The balcony looks across at the pine slope, not down over the valley. For the valley, see the Cloud Loft.
  • Mist on the pines comes some mornings and not others. Đà Lạt sees fog roughly 80 to 85 days a year, mostly in September and October; we will not tell you it is there every day.
  • Two guests maximum, no extra bed. Travelling alone and want fewer stairs? See Little Pine.
  • Tuệ wrote a guide to judging a “pine view” listing before you pay a deposit anywhere.
