Housekeeping and the breakfast kitchen · at Nhà Sương since 2022
Bùi Thị Hồng Lan, who keeps the rooms and runs the breakfast kitchen
I wash the blankets and warm them before you go up to the room. On a December night in Đà Lạt, the blanket is what you notice.
Washes and warms the linen before guests arrive, cooks the hot dish each morning, makes strawberry jam in season.
Lan has looked after the rooms and the breakfast kitchen at Nhà Sương since 2022. She cleans the room you sleep in, washes the blanket you sleep under and cooks what is on your plate at 07:30.
What she does at the house
Mornings are the kitchen. Breakfast for two guests per room is included and served in the lounge from 07:30 to 09:30: a hot dish that changes every day, bánh mì, seasonal fruit, Vietnamese filter coffee and artichoke tea (trà atiso). In strawberry season she makes jam, and the jar sits next to the bread.
Middays are the rooms. Check-out is at 12:00 and check-in starts at 14:00, and in those two hours she changes the beds and washes and warms the blankets. In rooms with electric blankets, such as Thông Đôi (Twin Pine), she switches them on before you arrive. She has done this since the first week, because the thing guests dread most in Đà Lạt is a cold night under one thin blanket.
What guests ask her
- Does a third guest get breakfast? Yes, in rooms that take an extra adult: 350,000 VND a night covers the extra bed and breakfast. Children 6 to 11 are 200,000 VND a night with breakfast. Children under 6 sleep free in the existing bed, without breakfast.
- When is the shared kitchen open? 07:00 to 21:30; it is 24 m². The Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room) has its own kitchen: induction hob, pots, plates, kettle, fridge and a table for four.
- What should I buy before cooking? Ask her before you go to the market. She knows what guests tend to forget and will tell you, so you only make one trip.
