Đà Lạt in the rainy season, late April to October: go or not
About 160 rainy days a year and 85% average humidity. When the rain comes, how slick the slopes get, what to do in a timber house, and why rates are softest.

Yes, Đà Lạt is worth a trip in the rainy season, as long as you come to stay somewhere warm and you are fine spending some afternoons indoors. The rainy season here runs from late April to October; the town gets about 160 rainy days a year and average humidity is 85%. In return, it is when our rooms are cheapest: the nights of 5 to 31 May and 6 September to 31 October are low season, at 85% of the regular rate. If your plan is all outdoors and depends on dry weather, pick another month.
Updated 6 October 2026. The climate figures come from the Vietnamese Wikipedia article on Đà Lạt (a secondary source, read 4 October 2026). We will check them against the national weather service’s records and correct this page if they differ.
A word on bias: Nhà Sương is a homestay that sells rooms, and the rainy months are when we most need guests. So this page tries hard to tell you the downsides too, and lets you decide.
The rainy season in numbers
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| Rainy season | Late April to October |
| Rainy days | About 160 a year |
| Annual rainfall | 1,768 mm |
| Average humidity | 85%, up to 91% in the rainy season |
| Monthly mean temperature | Always below 23°C |
| Fog | 80 to 85 days a year, most in September and October |
These are long-run averages, not a forecast for your week.
One thing worth knowing: September and October sit inside the rainy season and are also the two months with the most foggy days. That does not mean mist every morning. Whether there is mist is a question for each morning.
What time of day does it rain?
We have no measured data on this. What follows is what we have noticed from our alley off Hoàng Hoa Thám street over a few rainy seasons, not a statistic: on most rainy days we see, mornings are drier than afternoons, the rain tends to arrive after lunch and sometimes lasts into the evening. There are also spells of steady all-day rain, usually several days in a row.
How we suggest guests plan a day:
- Do the outdoor things in the morning, after breakfast (07:30 to 09:30).
- Keep the afternoon for indoor plans: a café, a covered market, or back home for a rest.
- Do not schedule two outdoor stops far apart on the same afternoon.
Our month-by-month guide puts the rainy season next to the other eleven months so you can compare.
Slopes and stone steps in the wet
The house sits on a hillside. From the gate to the lounge it is 46 stone steps, then 12 to 30 more depending on the room. Wet stone is slippery; we will not pretend otherwise. What the house does, and what we ask of you:
- Vinh carries guests’ luggage, wet day or dry.
- The alley up to the house is a slope. If heavy rain means the car cannot get up it, Vinh tells you beforehand and arranges where to meet you; you will not be left to climb with your bags.
- The rooms with the fewest steps are Thông Nhỏ (Little Pine) and Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room), both 12 steps from the lounge. If you travel with an older relative, choose one of these.
- Bring rubber-soled shoes with tread; foam sandals on wet stone are a bad idea.
- Walk slowly, watch the steps and keep your hands free.
- Try not to arrive after 22:00 on a rainy day; if you must, message us first.
Our piece on hillside homestays lists the step count for every room.
What to do in a timber house when it rains
This is the part the rainy season does well. Three things guests here tend to do:
Cook a meal
Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room), 34 m² with a 10 m² terrace, has its own kitchen: induction hob, pots, plates, kettle, fridge and a table for four. Other rooms use the shared kitchen (24 m², open 07:00 to 21:30). Shop at the market in the morning while it is dry and cook in the afternoon.
Sit by the stove
The Lò Sưởi (Fireside) room, 26 m² with a king bed (1.8 x 2.0 m), has a wood stove behind glass and a seat against the window over the pine valley. Vinh lights it from 18:00 to 22:00, one basket of wood a night, included. A stove warms the room, not the house, but on a damp evening a dry, warm room makes a real difference. Rooms without a stove share the one in the lounge, open 07:00 to 22:00.
Eat in
Groups of four or more can book the fireside dinner, 280,000 VND per person, 18:30 to 20:30, 24 hours’ notice. No need to go out looking for a restaurant in the rain.
Our low-season rates
Per room per night, including VAT, service charge and breakfast for two. Low season covers the nights of 5 to 31 May and 6 September to 31 October, holidays excepted. June to early September is still rainy but priced as regular season.
| Room | Low, Sun to Thu | Low, Fri and Sat | Regular, Sun to Thu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thông Nhỏ (Little Pine) | 720,000 VND | 900,000 VND | 850,000 VND |
| Thông Đôi (Twin Pine) | 890,000 VND | 1,120,000 VND | 1,050,000 VND |
| Gác Mây (Cloud Loft) | 1,150,000 VND | 1,430,000 VND | 1,350,000 VND |
| Lò Sưởi (Fireside) | 1,320,000 VND | 1,650,000 VND | 1,550,000 VND |
| Hiên Nắng (Sun Porch) | 1,490,000 VND | 1,860,000 VND | 1,750,000 VND |
| Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room) | 1,660,000 VND | 2,070,000 VND | 1,950,000 VND |
| Phòng Sương (Mist Suite) | 2,000,000 VND | 2,500,000 VND | 2,350,000 VND |
| Nhà Vườn (Garden House) | 2,510,000 VND | 3,130,000 VND | 2,950,000 VND |
Stay five nights or more in a row in low or regular season and every night is 10% off. That suits remote workers. Example: five nights in Bếp Nhỏ, Sunday 11 October to Friday 16 October 2026: 5 x 1,660,000 = 8,300,000 VND, less 10% (830,000) = 7,470,000 VND. The 30% deposit is 2,241,000 VND; the remaining 5,229,000 VND is paid on arrival. The same five nights in Lò Sưởi: 5,940,000 VND, deposit 1,782,000 VND.
The full table for every season is on the rates page. The house closes for upkeep on the nights of 11, 12 and 13 May 2027, in the middle of low season.
Cancelling, and bad weather
Low and regular season: cancel 5 days or more ahead for a full deposit refund; 2 to 4 days ahead, the deposit is kept; under 2 days or no show, the first two nights are charged. Ordinary rain is not a reason for a free cancellation. A storm, a landslide closing the mountain passes into Đà Lạt, or an official travel ban is different: we move your stay or keep it as credit for 12 months. Details on the booking policy and the FAQ.
What to pack
- A light two-piece rain suit; on stone steps it beats holding an umbrella.
- Rubber-soled shoes with tread and a spare pair of socks.
- A jacket: the monthly mean stays under 23°C and rainy evenings feel cool.
- A waterproof pouch for your phone and passport.
- A book. The lounge has a stove, a big table and artichoke tea (trà atiso) at breakfast.
So, go or not?
Go if you want a few quiet days of reading, cooking and sitting by a stove, and paying less than in other months. Pick another time if you want to cover many outdoor sights in a short trip, or if someone in your group finds stairs hard and wet stone would worry them all trip.
