Best time to visit Đà Lạt: a month-by-month calendar

Twelve months in Đà Lạt: when the mist is thick, wild sunflowers bloom, rain settles in, nights drop to 10 degrees, and when room rates rise or fall. Sourced.

Branches of Đà Lạt cherry blossom in dense pink bloom, fresh green leaves among the flowers, sky and pines blurred behind

If you can pick only one stretch, pick October and November. Mist is most frequent in September and October, wild sunflowers (dã quỳ) and buckwheat flowers bloom in October and November, the rainy season is ending, and October is low season at our house. If you want real cold, a fire in the room and the Flower Festival, come in December. If you want quiet lanes and the softest rates, come in May or the second half of September, and bring a rain jacket.

Updated 6 October 2026. I run a homestay that sells rooms, so the prices below are ours, not a market survey. Weather and flowers come from the sources listed at the end. Nobody can promise mist or flowers on a given morning, and we do not.

I am Tuệ. I grew up in Đà Lạt and guided visitors for twelve years before we turned the family house into eight rooms. The question I get most from people living in Saigon or Hà Nội is not which room is nicest but which month to come. The short answer is above. The long one is this table.

Twelve months at a glance

The table runs from October 2026 to September 2027, the twelve months you can still book. Weather and flower columns say only what our sources say; where a source gives no monthly figure, the cell says so rather than guess. Rates follow our season calendar and rate card at /en/rates, using the Lò Sưởi (Fireside) room as the example. Midweek means Sunday to Thursday nights; weekend means Friday and Saturday nights.

What the table leaves out:

  • Temperature. Our source (Vietnamese Wikipedia, a secondary source) says the monthly mean in Đà Lạt stays under 23°C all year and that December and January nights drop to 10°C to 12°C. We have no month-by-month table from the national weather service yet, so we print no other figures.
  • Rain. The rainy season runs from late April to October: about 160 rainy days a year and about 1,768 mm of rain. Average humidity is 85%, up to 91% in the rainy months.
  • Mist. Đà Lạt has fog on about 80 to 85 days a year, mostly in September and October. That is under a quarter of the year. Whether your morning is one of them is up to that morning.
  • Flowers. From a Vietnambooking article: wild sunflowers and buckwheat in October and November, white mustard in December, cherry blossom from late January into February, bauhinia in March, jacaranda in May and June. Bloom dates shift from year to year.
  • The whole rate card. Our cheapest night is the Thông Nhỏ (Little Pine) room at 720,000 VND midweek in low season; the dearest is the Nhà Vườn (Garden House) at 5,310,000 VND on a Tết night. Every rate includes VAT, service charge and breakfast for two.

Four seasons, as we see them from the porch

Mist and wild sunflowers: September to November

Fog is most frequent in September and October; wild sunflowers and buckwheat bloom in October and November. September and October are still in the rainy season, so pack a rain jacket. November is past it.

Our rates: nights from 6 September to 31 October are low season, 85% of the regular rate, so Fireside is 1,320,000 VND midweek. November goes back to regular, 1,550,000 VND.

Rooms that face the valley suit this season. The Phòng Sương (Mist Suite) is the top-floor corner with glass on two sides, the best seat in the house for morning mist. Hiên Nắng (Sun Porch) has an 8 m² east-facing timber porch where the sun comes up over the hill. If you would rather go out and find a sea of clouds, read cloud hunting in Đà Lạt: our source says clouds are clearer in the dry months, roughly October or November to April, between 05:00 and 07:30.

Cold nights and the Flower Festival: December to February

December and January nights drop to 10°C to 12°C, and in a timber house that is when a stove earns its keep. Three rooms have wood stoves: Fireside, the Mist Suite and the Garden House. Each stove sits behind glass and Vinh lights it from 18:00 to 22:00, one basket of wood a night, included. A stove warms its room, not the house. Rooms without one have electric blankets (the Thông Đôi, Twin Pine, has one on each bed), and Lan warms the bedding before you arrive. The lounge stove is lit from 07:00 to 22:00. Our piece on homestays with a fireplace covers wood, smoke and small children.

The 11th Đà Lạt Flower Festival is themed “Đà Lạt, a harmony of flowers and music”. VietnamPlus and Báo Văn hóa report the opening on the evening of 19 December 2026 at Lâm Viên Square (one says 19:00, the other 20:00) and the closing on the evening of 31 December with a New Year programme; flowers are displayed around Xuân Hương Lake, Trần Quốc Toản park and Yersin park. Dates, where to stay and when to book: Flower Festival 2026.

This is when our rates are highest. The night of 19 December is still regular season. Nights from 20 December to 28 February are peak, 130% of regular, except holiday and Tết nights. 24 and 31 December are holiday nights (150%). A stay that includes 30 or 31 December or 1 January needs at least 3 nights. Any peak, holiday or Tết night raises the deposit to 50%, and in peak season you need to cancel 10 days ahead for a full deposit refund instead of 5.

Cherry blossom runs from late January into February, around Tết. Tết has its own section below.

Bauhinia: March

March is out of the rainy season and past peak. At our house the whole month is regular season: Fireside 1,550,000 VND midweek, 1,940,000 VND on Friday and Saturday. Our flower source puts bauhinia in March. We have no night-time temperature for March, so I will not invent one; I still tell March guests to bring a warm layer, and stoves are lit every evening as in any month.

The rainy season: May to August (and on to October)

The rains start in late April and run to October, with humidity up to 91%. The lane gets slick; on days it is too wet for a car to reach the gate, Vinh says so and we tell you in advance. From the gate it is still 46 stone steps to the lounge, and Vinh carries the bags.

May has jacaranda. Our nights from 5 to 31 May are low season (Fireside 1,320,000 VND midweek). June to August we keep at regular rates: the two price blogs we read disagree on whether summer is high or low, so we neither raise nor cut. Stay five nights or more in low or regular season and every night is 10% off, which is meant for remote workers and other long stays. See Đà Lạt in the rainy season for what to do in a timber house on a wet afternoon.

Public holidays: how busy, and our rates

Holiday nights at our house are the night before and the night of each public day off, plus 24 and 31 December. They cost 150% of the regular rate with no extra weekend charge, need at least 2 nights, take a 50% deposit, and the balance is due 14 days before check-in. Once confirmed the deposit is not refunded, but you can move the dates once, free, if you ask 30 days or more ahead and a room is free.

30 April and 1 May. For 30 April to 3 May 2026, Nhân Dân reported about 620,000 visitors to Lâm Đồng (up about 21%), average occupancy of 70% to 80%, 85% to 96% at 3 to 5 star hotels with some days full, and stable accommodation prices. In 2027 our holiday nights are 29 and 30 April and 1 May, plus 15 and 16 April for the Hùng Kings’ day as we calculate it.

2 September. In 2026, per Mia.vn, National Day was two days off (1 and 2 September), and civil servants had five days in a row from 29 August. The 2027 schedule is not out; our holiday nights are 1 and 2 September 2027.

24 November this year. From 1 July 2026, 24 November is Vietnamese Culture Day, a paid day off (Resolution 28/2026/QH16, as reported on the Hà Tĩnh provincial portal). Whether 2026 gets one day or four in a row we have not yet seen decided. We charge holiday rates on the nights of 23 and 24 November 2026 and will update this page and the rate card if the break is longer.

Tết (Lunar New Year) 2027. The first day of the Year of the Goat (Đinh Mùi) is Saturday 6 February 2027. VOV reports that the culture ministry agreed on a seven-day break from Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February 2027. When we checked on 4 October 2026 this was still a proposal awaiting the Prime Minister’s decision. We price the nights of 4 to 10 February 2027 at Tết rates (180% of regular, 3 nights minimum) and will move the window if the final schedule differs. For a sense of the crowds: over Tết 2026 (14 to 22 February), Đại biểu Nhân dân reported about 925,000 visitors to Lâm Đồng, up about 32%, with average occupancy around 80% and above 90% at 3 to 5 star hotels on the busiest days. Our Tết 2027 guide covers how early to book and the cancellation rules.

What to pack, season by season

  • December and January: nights at 10°C to 12°C. A proper coat, warm socks, a beanie if you sit on the porch after dark. If you feel the cold, book a stove room or at least ask whether the bed has an electric blanket.
  • The rainy months, late April to October: a packable rain jacket, shoes with grip for wet lanes and stone steps, a dry bag for the camera, and a spare set of dry clothes, since average humidity is 85%.
  • Cloud hunting, any month: our source recommends soft-soled shoes and a warm jacket. Our cloud-hunting car leaves the gate at 04:45 in the dark, so dress warm before you leave the room.
  • Every month: one warm layer for the evening. The monthly mean stays under 23°C all year.

Do you need a stove? In December and January, if you get cold hands and feet, yes. Other months it is a pleasure rather than a need. Ours burn from 18:00 to 22:00; after that the room stays warm under the blankets, not by the fire.

An example: a weekend in mid-March

Bảo and Mai Anh came up from Ho Chi Minh City for their first wedding anniversary. She feels the cold; he wanted photos of the morning mist. Before booking they asked three things: is the stove real, who lights it, until when. They took the Fireside room from Friday 13 March to Sunday 15 March 2026.

  • Two weekend nights in regular season: 1,940,000 x 2 = 3,880,000 VND.
  • A stay with a Saturday night needs at least 2 nights; theirs was exactly 2.
  • 30% deposit on confirmation: 1,164,000 VND. The remaining 2,716,000 VND was paid on arrival.
  • Cancelling 5 days or more ahead would have refunded the deposit in full.

The same room on a weekend in October (low season) totals 3,300,000 VND. The weekend after Christmas (peak) totals 5,040,000 VND, with a 50% deposit. Same room, same stove.

An illustrative story for a demo site; figures are made up.

Pick the month by what you want

  • Mist from the window: September and October, in a valley-facing room (Mist Suite, Gác Mây (Cloud Loft), Fireside). No morning is guaranteed.
  • Cold and a fire: December and January. Book early; peak rates and a 50% deposit.
  • Flowers: October and November (wild sunflowers), late January into February (cherry blossom), March (bauhinia).
  • Quiet and lower rates: May, and 6 September to 31 October (our low season). Five nights or more takes another 10% off.
  • School holidays with children: June to August at regular rates; bring rain gear.

To see the total for your own dates, open /en/book: pick check-in and check-out and the page shows each night’s rate, the total, the deposit and the minimum nights before you send anything. More seasonal pieces are under Đà Lạt by season.
