Things to do around Đà Lạt

The Đà Lạt vintage train to Trại Mát: times, fares and half a day at Linh Phước

Đà Lạt station was built in 1938 and the 7 km line has run again since 1991. Sources disagree on times and fares; we show each number with its read date.

An old railway track curving through the edge of Đà Lạt, a broad pine beside it, greenhouses and blue sky in the distance

The vintage train runs from Đà Lạt station (1 Quang Trung street) to Trại Mát station along a 7 km stretch of track. The station was built in 1938, and this section of line was restored and has run again since 1991. On times and fares: the sources we read do not agree, and we have not yet confirmed them by phone with the station, so this page does not publish a timetable or a ticket price. Call the station before your day out, or ask Ngân to call for you; if you book through us, tickets are at the station price.

Updated 6 October 2026. We will update this page as soon as the station confirms the current times and fares.

Written by Tuệ, the host, who guided visitors around Đà Lạt for 12 years. To be clear: Nhà Sương is a homestay that sells rooms, and we also sell a car ride to the station (price below). You can just as well go on your own; this page covers both.

Why we do not copy times and fares from a blog: train schedules can change with the season, public holidays and passenger numbers. A wrong number on our page could leave you waiting at the station for an hour. Once the station confirms, we will print the numbers with the date we called.

How we hold tickets and get you to the station

This is our vintage train experience:

  • Tell Ngân the date and how many people, at least 24 hours ahead.
  • Ngân checks that day’s times with the station and holds the tickets. You pay the station price; we add nothing.
  • Our car takes you from the gate to Đà Lạt station: 150,000 VND per car. The car waits right at the gate (cars up to seven seats get through the alley), so you only walk down the 46 stone steps from the lounge, not out to the main road.
  • The way back: mention it when you book and we will work out the return around that day’s train times.

Our other extras and the seasonal room rates are on the rates page.

On your own: take a taxi or a ride-hailing car to Đà Lạt station and buy tickets at the counter. Before boarding, ask when the last train back from Trại Mát leaves. That decides how much time you have on the other side.

Morning or afternoon?

Without confirmed times we can only give principles:

  • Morning suits a day that starts with cloud hunting: the car leaves our gate at 04:45 and you are back for breakfast (07:30 to 09:30), then a short rest and off to the station. Our three days in Đà Lạt itinerary puts the train right after breakfast on day two for this reason.
  • Rainy season (late April to October): in our own experience, afternoons are wetter than mornings. That is an observation, not measured data. In those months, take an earlier train if there is one.
  • Afternoon suits a day when you check in early or just want a short ride and back.

Whichever you choose, our rule is the same: know the time of the return train before you set off.

A sample day, once the times are known

  1. The evening before: Ngân messages you the outbound and return times she got from the station, plus when the car leaves and how to collect the tickets.
  2. 07:30: breakfast in the lounge: a hot dish that changes daily, bánh mì, seasonal fruit, Vietnamese filter coffee and artichoke tea.
  3. The car leaves the gate at the agreed time for Đà Lạt station, 1 Quang Trung.
  4. At Trại Mát: visit Linh Phước pagoda and keep an eye on the return train.
  5. Back home: the shared kitchen is open until 21:30, and in rooms with a stove Vinh lights it from 18:00.

Half a day at Trại Mát and Linh Phước pagoda

When you get off at Trại Mát, the place we usually suggest is Linh Phước pagoda. We have not measured the walk from the station to the pagoda on a map, so we give no metres or minutes; ask at the station and someone will point the way.

A few things we told our tour groups for years:

  • It is a place of worship: cover shoulders and knees, keep your voice down, and follow the signs in each area.
  • Wear shoes that come off easily, in case a hall asks you to remove them.
  • Bring water and a light jacket in case the weather turns.
  • Count back from the return train, not from how you feel.

Half a day covers the round: train out, the pagoda, train back. If you want lunch over there, ask the people around the station; we do not name places we have not eaten at recently.

Which room suits a train day

If your train day starts early and ends with dinner at home, these two rooms fit:

  • Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room): 34 m², a private kitchen and a table for four, a 10 m² terrace on the pine garden, only 12 steps from the lounge. Good if you want to stop at the market on the way back and cook.
  • Thông Đôi (Twin Pine): 22 m², two single beds (1.2 x 2.0 m) that can be pushed together, a 5 m² balcony facing the pine hill. Good for two friends travelling together.

Book on the booking page and add a note such as “vintage train on (date)” so Ngân can check with the station at the same time.

If you need to type the station's or our address into a ride-hailing app, read Đà Lạt addresses after the 2025 merger: ward names changed on 1 July 2025, and some apps and older documents may still show the old ones.

Questions guests ask

Do I need to book ahead? We do not know the station’s reservation policy for every season for certain. So we always check with the station a day ahead, and suggest you do the same if you go on your own.

What about children? Child fares and rules are set by the station; Ngân asks when she holds the tickets.

Does the train run in the rain? We do not have an answer from the station yet. On a day of heavy rain, call before you leave the house.

Can I ride a motorbike to the station? Ask the station about parking. If you rent a bike, remember our alley is a slope and slippery when wet.
