Things to do around Đà Lạt · Start here
Three days in Đà Lạt: an unhurried itinerary from our alley
Day one on foot near home, day two cloud hunting then the vintage train, day three market and coffee. Hours, sourced distances, what to skip; fares from the station.

Three days and two nights in Đà Lạt, starting from our house off Hoàng Hoa Thám street: on day one, check in at 14:00, stay close to home and spend the evening by the stove. On day two, get up at 04:30 for cloud hunting, come back for breakfast, and take the vintage train to Trại Mát and Linh Phước pagoda in the afternoon. On day three, go to Đà Lạt market and a café, check out at 12:00 and head for Liên Khương airport. One main thing a day, and the rest is rest. If it rains, cloud hunting is the first thing to drop.
Updated 6 October 2026. Nhà Sương is a homestay that sells rooms, so this plan runs on our house hours (breakfast, stove times, the cloud-hunting car), and where it quotes a price for one of our services, that is our price. We have not yet measured the distance from our alley to Xuân Hương Lake, the station or the market, so you will find no walking times or kilometres here apart from the sourced cloud-hunting distances.
I am Tuệ. I guided visitors for twelve years before we opened, and the itineraries people brought with them usually squeezed far too many stops into a day and got them home at 22:00, cold and tired. This one does the opposite: fewer stops, clock times, and a clear list of what you can skip.

There are no travel times in the notes column because we have not measured them. When you book a car, Ngân asks when you want to arrive and tells you when it leaves the gate.
Day one: stay close to home
Do not go far on the first day. You have just come off a plane or a sleeper bus, and from the gate it is 46 stone steps to the lounge (Vinh carries the bags). Check-in starts at 14:00; arrive from 11:00 and you can check in for free if the room is ready, or leave your bags and go for lunch.
Afternoon. Wander Hoàng Hoa Thám street and the lanes around the house; no map needed. We are in Xuân Hương ward (written “Xuân Hương - Đà Lạt”), which used to be Ward 10, and many people still call it that, so either name works when you ask for directions. Our piece on the 2025 ward changes explains why one address now has two names. Back at the house, sit in the pine garden, the grill yard or by the lounge stove.
If you want Xuân Hương Lake on the first afternoon, take a car; we have not measured the walk and will not call it “a few minutes”. During the Flower Festival (opening on the evening of 19 December 2026, closing on the evening of 31 December, per VietnamPlus), flowers are displayed around Xuân Hương Lake, Trần Quốc Toản park and Yersin park, so a first afternoon is a good time to see them. Full dates in Flower Festival 2026.
Evening. In the Lò Sưởi (Fireside) room, the Mist Suite or the Garden House, Vinh lights the wood stove at 18:00 and it burns until 22:00, one basket of wood a night, included. Other rooms have the lounge stove, lit from 07:00 to 22:00.
The fireside dinner runs from 18:30 to 20:30 at 280,000 VND per person, for groups of four or more, booked 24 hours ahead. As a couple you cannot book it on your own; better to know now than to wait for it. The alternatives: cook in the 24 m² shared kitchen (open 07:00 to 21:30), or eat out and come back before 22:00, when quiet hours start and reception closes. If you will be later, message Ngân so someone opens the gate.
Go to bed early. The car leaves at 04:45.
Day two: clouds, then the train
Cloud hunting at sunrise
Our source (Mia.vn) gives a window of 05:00 to 07:30 and says clouds are clearer in the dry months, roughly October or November to April. It lists the usual spots by distance from the centre: Robin Hill about 2 km, Đa Phú about 10 km, Langbiang about 18 km, Cầu Đất about 23 km, and recommends soft-soled shoes and a warm jacket.
Our cloud-hunting car leaves the gate at 04:45, costs 350,000 VND per car with 12 hours’ notice, and has you back for breakfast at 07:30. Tell Vinh which hill you would like when you book. Whether there are clouds depends on that morning’s wind; on a clear day you still get an early hour on a hill and breakfast on time. Cloud hunting in Đà Lạt covers hills, wake-up times and what to wear.
Not a 04:30 person? Stay on the porch. Hiên Nắng (Sun Porch) has an 8 m² east-facing timber porch where the sun comes up over the hill, and the Phòng Sương (Mist Suite), a top-floor corner with glass on two sides over the valley, is the best seat in the house for morning mist. Đà Lạt has fog on about 80 to 85 days a year, mostly in September and October, so that is not a promise either.
Breakfast and a slow morning
Breakfast is served in the lounge from 07:30 to 09:30: a hot dish Lan changes daily, bánh mì, seasonal fruit, filter coffee and artichoke tea. After a 04:30 start, I suggest going back to sleep. The plan leaves the morning of day two empty on purpose.
The vintage train to Trại Mát and Linh Phước pagoda
Đà Lạt station was built in 1938 and stands at 1 Quang Trung. The 7 km line to Trại Mát was restored and has run again since 1991. This comes from a guide on dalat.app, a secondary source.
Sources disagree on the timetable. One lists four departures: 7:30, 9:50, 14:00 and 16:20. If that still holds on your day, we suggest the 14:00, since you were up at 04:30. Call the station, or ask Ngân to, a day ahead to confirm. Fares also differ between sources, and we will not print one until the station confirms it.
Our vintage train service: we hold tickets for you at the station price and drive you to the station for 150,000 VND per car, with 24 hours’ notice. At Trại Mát, visit Linh Phước pagoda and then go back to the station for the return run; we have not measured the way from the station to the pagoda, so no minutes here. Ask for the return time at the station rather than trusting a timetable online. The vintage train to Trại Mát lists every source with its read date.
Evening of day two
Get back before 18:00 and the stove will just have been lit. Leave this evening free: the fire, a book, or the shared kitchen. If you are four or more, this is the better night for the fireside dinner, after a long day out.
Day three: market, coffee, check-out
After breakfast. Go to Đà Lạt market for dried fruit, jams and vegetables to take home, then sit in a café. We do not name cafés here: they change owners and hours, and we would rather not advertise for anyone. Ask Ngân at the desk and she will suggest one to suit you (quiet, a window, opens early). Take a car to the market; reception (07:00 to 22:00) can call one.
12:00, check-out. If your flight is late in the day you have two options. Late check-out until 14:00 for 200,000 VND, when the room is free and not after a holiday or Tết night. Or message Ngân in advance to ask about leaving your bags in the lounge after check-out.
To the airport. Our airport car is 450,000 VND per car for up to four people and four suitcases, with 12 hours’ notice. Give us your flight time and Ngân gives you the departure time from the gate. Vinh carries the bags down the 46 steps.
Which room suits this plan
The plan has one 04:30 start, two evenings at home and an afternoon on the train. Rates below are Friday or Saturday nights in regular season, including VAT, service charge and breakfast for two.
| Room | Suits which part of the plan | Fri or Sat, regular season |
|---|---|---|
| Thông Nhỏ (Little Pine), 18 m² | Fewest steps (12 from the lounge), next to the lounge stove | 1,060,000 VND |
| Fireside, 26 m² | Two evenings by a wood stove, a window seat over the pine valley | 1,940,000 VND |
| Sun Porch, 28 m² | An east-facing porch if you skip cloud hunting | 2,190,000 VND |
| Bếp Nhỏ (Kitchen Room), 34 m² | A private kitchen for dinner on day two; 12 steps from the lounge | 2,440,000 VND |
| Mist Suite, 36 m² | Mist from the window, a wood stove, a bath by the window after cloud hunting | 2,940,000 VND |
| Nhà Vườn (Garden House), 52 m² | A family of four: two bedrooms, a small kitchen, a wood stove | 3,690,000 VND |
One warning: the Gác Mây (Cloud Loft) has a steep 11-step stair up to the bed. If you plan to get up at 04:30 in the dark, factor that in.
Midweek, holidays and Tết
Midweek is cheaper. Nothing in this plan needs to run Friday to Sunday. In the Fireside room, Sunday and Monday nights in regular season come to 1,550,000 x 2 = 3,100,000 VND, against 3,880,000 VND for a weekend. In low season (nights 5 to 31 May and 6 September to 31 October), two midweek nights are 1,320,000 x 2 = 2,640,000 VND. A midweek stay with no Saturday or holiday night has no minimum; this plan needs two nights anyway.
Public holidays. A stay with a holiday night needs at least 2 nights, so three days and two nights still fits. The deposit rises to 50% and is not refunded once confirmed; you can move the dates once if you ask 30 days or more ahead.
Tết (Lunar New Year) and New Year’s Eve. A stay that includes a Tết night, or any of 30 December, 31 December or 1 January, needs at least 3 nights, so this plan needs an extra night then. The Tết 2027 holiday was still a proposal when we checked on 4 October 2026. Our month-by-month guide shows seasons and rates for each month.
What to pack
- A proper warm layer for 04:45. December and January nights drop to 10°C to 12°C, and you leave the room in the dark.
- Soft-soled shoes with grip for the hill and the 46 stone steps from the gate.
- A packable rain jacket from late April to October.
- Your passport or ID card for each guest. From 1 July 2026, homestays must register every overnight guest, foreign guests included, through the official channels (Doanh nghiệp và Hội nhập, 17 July 2026, a secondary source); we do this at check-in.
What to drop if it rains
The rainy season runs from late April to October, with about 160 rainy days a year (Vietnamese Wikipedia, secondary). If your three days fall in it, drop things in this order:
- Cloud hunting. First to go if it rained hard overnight or is raining at dawn. Tell Vinh the evening before; on days the lane is too wet for a car, he says so and we tell you.
- The day-one walk. Swap it for the lounge stove.
- The market on day three. Keep it short: drive there, shop, drive back.
What to keep: the train, if it is running (call in the morning). Rain on a carriage window is still an afternoon. Đà Lạt in the rainy season has more ideas for a wet day in a timber house.
What to drop if early starts or crowds are not for you
- Hate early mornings: skip cloud hunting and watch from the Sun Porch or the Mist Suite window.
- Hate crowds: avoid the Flower Festival opening night at Lâm Viên Square and the public holidays.
- Travelling with older parents: skip cloud hunting (04:30, hill roads), keep the train, and book a room with few steps such as Little Pine or the Kitchen Room, 12 steps from the lounge.
What three days cost: an example
Bảo and Mai Anh stayed in the Fireside room from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 March 2026, two weekend nights in regular season: 1,940,000 x 2 = 3,880,000 VND. Suppose they followed this plan and added two of our services:
- Cloud-hunting car: 350,000 VND.
- Car to the station for the vintage train: 150,000 VND (tickets at the station price, not included here).
- Quote total: 4,380,000 VND. 30% deposit on confirmation: 1,314,000 VND; 3,066,000 VND on arrival.
Not included: train tickets, lunch, dinners out, the airport car. Room rates include VAT, service charge and breakfast for two. A stay with a Saturday night needs at least 2 nights, which is exactly three days and two nights.
To see the total for your own dates, open /en/book: pick the dates and you see each night’s rate, the total, the deposit and the minimum nights, and you can add services on the same page. All eight rooms are on the rate card. More ideas are under things to do around Đà Lạt.
